The Unalterable, the Choice and the Promise
4th April 2020When you rescue a dog, you may or may not know about his past. What you do know is that you cannot do anything about it despite how hard you try for it is the Unalterable. However, what you can do at present is to decide how you want to care of him now, what to feed, how to communicate and where he rests. You have the Choice. In the future, lays the Promise that he will develop into the best version of the dog he is. Does this sound like how you would think and the actions you would take?
It is interesting how we may not apply the same thinking to ourselves. We have an Unalterable Past, the Choice of the Present and the Promise of the Future. Many people live in the past, allowing it to define who they are, impeding their present actions and adversely affecting their future.
Your Unalterable past is important. It serves as experience and lessons for you to learn what worked and what did not. It is a place to learn from, not a home to live in. It allows you to have a collective knowledge of your successes and failures, a part of your life that you have lived. Everything happens for a reason. Every event has a purpose and every setback its lesson. Failure, whether of the personal, professional or even spiritual kind, is essential to personal expansion. Never regret your past. Embrace it as the teacher that it is. Happiness comes through good judgement, good judgement comes through experience, and experience comes through bad judgement. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Learn from your past, do not live in it.
Your present is wondrous. It is liberating. It allows you the Choice to do what you want to do, say what you want to say and more importantly, think what you want to think. All your words and deeds start with your thoughts. Either you control your mind or it controls you. What are you thinking of most of the time? The quality of your thinking determines the quality of your life. If there is a lack in your life, it is because there is a lack in your thoughts. Practice the Attitude of Gratitude. Allow yourself to be amazing. Allow the rest of the world to see how amazing you are. Give them the gift of your being and in doing so, you will be giving yourself the gift of the wondrous you as well. Hiding and being small serves no purpose at all. They need to see magic of you. You need to see the magic of you. So choose your thoughts carefully. It will allow you to choose your words and deeds better.
Your future is unknown and therefore has the Promise of being whatever you want. It is only limited by the limitations in your mind. Practice creative visioneering. Lead your life with purpose. In a glimpse of an eye, as fast as a butterfly flutters its wings, your future will undoubtedly become your past. Are you being aware of time passing you by? The day to be lived next week will suddenly become your day lived last week. Have you used that day wisely? Were you even aware of that day happening or did it become a figment of your imagination of a distant past? Can you recall each day lived? Remember the time when you had an amazing day? The day you fell in love? Or became a father or a mother? Maybe you won a competition or perhaps you lost? The days that were burned so deep into your memory that, at times, you still have vivid visions of them. The days that truly evoke your emotions. Do you still have days like that? Why not?
Remember, your present self is richer than your past self for you have the currency of Choice. Your future self is richer than your past and present self for it has the currency of time and Promise. Always remember that what lies behind you and what lies in front of you is nothing when compared to what lies within you. Your actions today (not in the past) will affect your results in tomorrow. Are you learning from your Unalterable to make great Choices that will allow the Promise of your future be yours?
If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present. – Lao Tzu.
Balance living like there is no tomorrow with behaving like you will live forever.
