Education as 2nd Core Value

Education as 2nd Core Value

5th May 2019

Why do we have Education as our second core value after Professionalism at Amity?

I see the veterinary profession as a profession that embraces Education. Every day, we are learning and teaching. The owners teach us about their pets. In return, we share our knowledge of the animals’ biology, anatomy, physiology and veterinary medicine. Together, we create a treatment to achieve a common goal, to help the pet and regain the health of the individual so the owner can enjoy their healthy pet once more. Education is a two way communication; we teach and learn at the same time.

Some owners may think that we know all and expect us to solve the entire problem. Some vets may think that we are here to educate the owners solely. I firmly believe it is a two way communication where both owner and the vet team have to educate each other to enable the most appropriate treatment plan to be formulated. I would almost go as far as to say that without the owner’s input, it is difficult, if not impossible to come up with a treatment plan that is suitable.

It is the same within the vet team. We learn from each other and teach each other. That is how we grow. It is often said that when you know it all, it is the knowledge that comes after that matters.

So, thank you for entrusting your pet in our care and thank you for educating us, allowing us to share the wonderful bond you enjoy with your pet. May we learn and grow together in time to come.
